time to get "camera ready!"

Yay! You booked a big job! When you arrive, you need to look and feel your spectacular! Now is NOT the time to try new hair color/style or beauty treatment! If your color doesn't come out as planned or your skin freaks out because you reacted poorly to the new AHA cleanser you splurged on, you won't look your best! The client wants to see the face they booked, not the same girl with newly red hair.

  • Get plenty of sleep. Bags, dark circles, and bloodshot eyes can ruin a shoot. Sleep at least eight hours a night for the three days prior to your job and avoid alcohol.
Emergency fix: If you do have bags or circles, good old fashioned cucumber slices placed over your eyes can help alleviate problems. Red eyes can be treated with Visine. Yellow toned concealer will help neutralize dark circles (carry your own in case you need to do your own make-up).

  • Bloating. You don't want a puffy face for the big shoot. Drink plenty of water, avoid salty foods and alcohol prior to a shoot.
Emergency fix: If you are bloated, an over the counter diuretic may help. And drink water, water, WATER!!!

  • Be hair free! Wax or shave your legs and armpits just prior to a shoot. If you are modeling swimwear or lingerie, be sure you hit the bikini line. This is also the time to be sure your facial hair is under control. Don't have your facial hair waxed in the three days prior to your shoot in order to allow for irritation to disappear.
Emergency fix: Carry razors and tweezers with you in your bag
    .

  • Got zits? No problem! Have a little breakout just prior to your shoot? Now is the time to seek out a drying remedy. This can range from a trip to the dermatologist for an injection, trying a "zit zapper" (like BeneFit's Boo Boo Zap), or using a home remedy like toothpaste or Carmex on the ugly red sucker!
Emergency fix: Visine not only gets the redness out of eyes, but out of pimples too! Also, applying a green toned concealer will help neutralize the redness.

  • Hair affair. If it has been a while since you had a trim, now is the time. Just be sure your hairdresser knows that he can't go too wild this time. If you hair is dry, opt for a deep conditioning treatment. If you color your hair, get a refresher or have your roots done.
Emergency fixes: If your roots are showing, you can purchase hair mascara at beauty supply stores. If you didn't make it in for a trim, don't do it yourself! If your hair has dry ends, use a heavy conditioner on your ends only and sleep in it.

  • Pearly whites. If you drink a lot of coffee or tea, you may notice staining. A trip to the dentist's office for cosmetic whitening is the way to go. Go in for regular cleanings and floss! Crest White Strips are spectacular for home whitening and are much cheaper than a dentist visit.
Emergency fix: Most fixes for stained teeth take a white to work. Don't neglect your teeth!

  • Nails. Generally, short and neutral (nude polish or a French manicure) is the desired look. Get a manicure or do one yourself just prior to your shoot. Don't forget your toes!
Emergency fix: Until they invent pocket-sized manicurists, carry nude polish, polish remover pads, a file, nail glue and nail clippers with you.

  • Traveling by air? Food isn't the only lousy thing about airline travel. Airline air can be dehydrating! Be sure to drink plenty of water, avoid caffiene and alcohol, and moisturize! Little spritzer bottles of Evian keep you hydrated and feel great as well!
